General Session - Friday
General Session I
Opening Session
Friday,
November 17th
8:009:30am
David Mas Masumoto
David Mas Masumoto, author, third-generation organic peach and grape farmer,
father, husband, and columnist for the Fresno Bee, will welcome conference
attendees at the first general session of the 2006 California School Library.
Conference celebrating California School Libraries, a Bountiful Harvest.
Mas calls himself a slow farmer, carefully observing the changes in nature,
listening, and responding to the changes in the land, and through his
poignant writing, he reminds us to take time to savor all the moments
of life. His writing and speaking are a perfect reflection of his joy
and insight into the cycle of the harvest. Join Mas and your colleagues
in our first general session and let us begin the harvest of great ideas!
Presentations
at this session are the Innovation Award (sponsored by
Highsmith Inc.), Technology Award (sponsored by Sagebrush
Corp.), and the President’s Award (sponsored by
DEMCO), recognition of Sustaining Members, and the installation of new
CSLA State Officers.

General
Session II
Legislative
Luncheon
Friday,
November 18th
12:302:00pm
Cost: $24
This luncheon is a “must” for those committed to school library
legislation. Bi-partisan support of school libraries is essential to successful
passage of CSLA bills. Tom Harman, a Republican from
Orange County, has the distinction of being the first Republican to vote
for CSLA’s School Libraries Content Standards bill. Further, he
is the only legislator to vote for it twice in the same year – first
on the floor of the Assembly and four months later on the floor of the
Senate. After nearly six years of service as an Assembly Member, Mr. Harman
won a special election in June to fill the vacant 35th Senate seat. He
brings to this luncheon not only the perspective of a Senator, Assembly
Member, and former city councilman, but also the commitment of a longtime
supporter of school libraries.
Presentations
at this meeting are the CSLA Administrative Leadership Award and
Good Ideas! Awards.
