Pamela Duncan Edwards and Henry Cole
The Author and Illustrator Brunch overflows with guest authors and illustrators
seated at each table. Enjoy lively discourse with colleagues plus a book
giveaway. An autographing session will immediately follow the brunch.
Pamela
Duncan Edwards and Henry Cole will be the keynote
speakers. Their sparkling wit and delightful humor spills out of each
book into an appreciate audience. Pamela Duncan Edwards
grew up in northern England and moved to the United States twenty-five
years ago with her husband and two sons. She has lived in the Washington,
D.C. area ever since. Her father wrote children’s stories for magazines
in England and his love of children’s literature was a huge influence
on her. She taught preschool in England and became a children’s
librarian in the U.S. Her teaching background allows her to present early
learning concepts in her books that are also entertaining. She believes
laughter is a great learning tool.
Henry
Cole grew up on a farm in Purcallville, Virginia. Always interested
in art and science, he went to Virginia Tech to study forestry but is
a self taught artist. His education required a close look at nature and
his observation of such details gave a unique focus with his drawing.
He tried a number of jobs including magazine illustration and for the
14 years, he taught elementary grade science classes.
This award
winning duo has teamed up to create numerous popular picture books including
Roar! A Noisy Counting Book; Barefoot: Escape on the Underground
Railroad; Some Smug Slug; The Worrywarts; Gigi
and Lulu’s Gigantic Fight; Wake-up Kisses; Rosie’s
Roses; and the 1999 California Young Reader Medal
winner Livingstone Mouse. Boston Tea Party was chosen
for the Los Angeles' 100 Best Books, 2001. Because they
were educators, Henry and Pamela include related lessons for an education
focus in their books.
Henry Cole
is donating an original signed artwork to be given away (opportunity scholarship
drawing) at the end of the brunch. You must be present to win this original
painting.
