Who are today's storytellers and what techniques do they use to inform
and persuade? How do people cope with information overload and what role
do libraries and educators play in helping young people make sense of
the world and shaping the stories of their communities? Slaying the Gorgon
is a fascinating and provocative multimedia presentation by Joe McHugh
that looks at how stories are told in today's world given the dynamic
and transforming influence of new technologies.
Joe McHugh
is a storyteller, writer and public radio producer. Since 1999 he has
produced a public radio series called The Telling Takes Us Home, A
Celebration of American Family Stories. These stories have been featured
on NPR's Morning Edition, Weekend America, and the International English-language
Service of Voice of America reaching an estimated audience of 90 million
listeners. Joe has also written two collections of folktales, an illustrated
children's book, and a novel entitled Kilowatt about the energy
industry and the nature of time.
