General Session V
Author & Illustrator Brunch
Sunday,
November 23rd
11:00am 1:00pm
Cost: $25
What better
way to make some final
and memorable connections at our conference than by attending the popular
Author/Illustrator Brunch? Continuing with tradition, attendees will
have the opportunity to meet an author or illustrator who will join them
at a table for a chat and brunch.
Rosemary
Wells will provide the keynote presentation and will connect
us with her stories and her passion for reading to children. Rosemary
grew up on the New Jersey shore when it consisted of small farms and
woods in which to roam. Her parents, a Russian ballet dancer and an
actor and playwright, surrounded her with stories and books. At age
two Rosemary began to draw and has never stopped! Over her career
of 30 years and 60 books, she has created a host of memorable picture
book characters which include Max, Ruby, Noisy Nora, and Yoko.
Rosemary
is also known for her Read to Your Bunny advocacy.
She believes that the "most important thing in the first years of
life is the growth of the mind and spirit". She urges parents to
find a restful place and read aloud for 20 minutes every day. She suggests
that parents use the library and says that "in the pages of
the book you will find a tiny vacation of privacy and intense love".
Winner
of many awards and accolades, Rosemary's recent book, Red Moon
at Sharpsburg,
received starred reviews from School Library Journal, Booklist and
Kirkus. This young adult novel features the memorable
13-year-old girl, India, during the Civil War. This novel portrays the
utter devastation of war and yet allows the reader to hope.
