Moving Purposefully Forward

I am so proud to be in a professional organization that will be 100 years old in 2015. It would be amazing to have a conversation with the charter members! Have we met their dreams, their mission, and their passion for their student’s future? Our world has seen remarkable changes in those 98 years, and now the speed of change is exponential. On December 7, 2011, the one-millionth phone app was published. According to Publishers Weekly, the ownership of tablets and e-readers doubled over this holiday season. Apple is negotiating with textbook publishers. You are the guide. You have the expertise recognized by standards, credentials and statutes. Much like those passionate school librarians in 1915, we are preparing our students to succeed in jobs that are not yet imagined.

This great circle of dedication, persistence, tenacity, consistency, purpose, drive, and faith in the future transforms this organization into a “living” organism. There has been a century of librarians who inspire us. The words, ideals, and actions of staunch members influenced my thinking and vision to understanding that our organizational purpose is far greater than we are. Much like the millipede, which moves purposefully with hundreds of legs, CSLA is purposefully moving forward. 

Take advantage of these resources and events. They move each of us forward.

Northern Section 2, Sacramento, Google Apps and QR code workshop. 

Southern Sections 2 and 4 are having a terrific library tour in Los Angeles and a screening of “The Hollywood Librarian” in Costa Mesa.

State conference is in San Jose! Mark your calendars – Friday, November 16 – Monday, November 19, 2012. 

In closing, my very best wishes to you for a wonderful 2012. I hope you enjoyed a restorative, restful, FUN holiday season. To all of our membership; friends, professional, paraprofessional, institutional, sustaining, associate, commercial you are integral to forward movement…..lets make our founders proud
