Section 1 Presents:  'Gravitate to Graphics' on April 28, 8:30-12:00 noon at Woodside Elementary School, 761 San Simeon Drive, Concord, CA 94518.

Whether you have already begun using graphic novels at your school or know relatively little about them, this workshop is for you. The day will begin with a presentation on graphic novels by Joe Fields, owner of Flying Colors Comics, and Cheryl Wozniak, reading specialist and 4th grade teacher. They will share favorite titles, provide arguments for the use of graphic novels within the school setting, and help to clarify what graphic novels are all about.

Next, you can attend one of three school level break-out sessions to get specific lesson plan
ideas for the classroom. Finally, come to a panel discussion where your questions can be
answered. Joe and Cheryl will be joined by Nancy Brenner, middle school librarian, and Pam
Deane, high school English teacher, for both the break-out sessions and the panel discussion.

Registration fee: $15 CSLA member $20 non-member ($5 discount for early [before the event] registration).

Make checks payable to CSLA and mail to: Kit Hein 533 Roanoke Dr., Martinez, CA 94553
no later than April 25.
