If you missed our March visits, it is not too late to visit your legislators at any time. It's an opportunity for library supporters to educate their legislators about the importance of school libraries.
TOOLS FOR LEGISLATIVE DAYS IN THE DISTRICT
To optimize your appointment time with your legislator, your CSLA government affairs and legislative committee team leaders are compiling tools for you to use as talking points and documents to leave behind with your legislator. Stay tuned for these tools and resources as they are being updated or created. Click here for Tools/Resources.

YOU ARE NEEDED AT LEGISLATIVE DAYS IN THE DISTRICT!
We are continuing the theme “Educate to Legislate” as the CSLA legislative agenda for this year. Building relationships, informing, and demonstrating to legislators the learning that happens every day in California school libraries is our goal. Legislative Days in the District are as important as they have ever been. We know that strong school libraries coupled with teacher librarians and library professionals positively impact student achievement. Now is the time to continue delivering this message to those legislators who will support library legislation in the future.
DAYS IN THE DISTRICT DATE
Friday, March 4
Friday, March 11

GETTING STARTED
There are several components to Legislative Days in the District. Please thoroughly read this message for details about how to make appointments with legislators, where to find resources (fact sheet, talking points, toolkits, etc.), and who to contact with your questions.
CALL FOR LEGISLATIVE CONTACTS
We need CSLA members who would like to serve as Legislative Contact. Here is what it means to be a CSLA Legislative Contact. You agree to:
- Contact your legislator’s district office to set up an appointment at the district office either with the legislator or a key staff person.
- Post information about the appointment on the Legi Day website (such as meeting time, place, and other pertinent information).
- Address questions from people who will sign up to attend this appointment with you.
If you want to serve as a contact, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] at the CSLA office with your name and your legislator’s name. She will make the assignment in the Legi Day database and provide you with the instructions to access the database to schedule the appointment, enter notes, etc.
HEADQUARTERS FOR INFORMATION
The CSLA Web site is the headquarters for information about Legislative Day in the District. CSLA’s Legislative Committee is compiling resources for delegates to use in advance of your day in your district (talking points, messaging) and information that you will hand-deliver to your legislator the day of your visit.
WHO IS YOUR LEGISLATOR?
If you do not know who your legislators are, log into CSLA’s legislative database, www.legiday.net. Type “member” in the Account Name field and “member” in the Password field. On the next page click the “legiday” link.
When you arrive at the home page of Legi Day, there are four menu options at the top; click on Maps/Webs. At the next screen, click on Find Legislators, which is located below the green banner and primary menu options. Scroll down and enter your home address information.
The results will yield your Senator and Assembly Member.
Now you are ready to participate by signing up for an appointment with your legislator.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
YOU MUST SIGN UP ONLINE to attend specific appointments with legislators. The online appointment schedule is located at www.legiday.net. Once you enter the website, type “member” in the Account Name field and “member” in the Password field. On the next screen, click the “legiday” link. Then follow the on-screen directions.
At the website you will find lists of legislators, appointment dates and times, and notes about the meetings. We need to tell legislators the names of people will attend their meetings, so please use this website to sign up. You do not need to make the appointment with the legislator’s office. The assigned contact will schedule these appointments.
