Building Real Connections in a Digital World

Thursday May 28 @ 4 PM

Join us for a session that delves into how digital habits are reshaping the social fabric of our schools. We'll discuss why students are growing up in an environment where technology is designed to be affirming and effortless, and how rising screen time — especially during unstructured breaks — can distance them from the real human connections that create a safe and welcoming school environment. A staggering 73% of Gen Z report feeling lonely, even as they are more digitally connected than any previous generation.

Led by facilitator Sue Thotz and informed by Common Sense Media's research and their Digital Literacy and Well-Being Curriculum, this session will guide participants through the world of AI companions and parasocial relationships. You'll discover what it takes to build genuine connections among students and how to implement strategies that encourage healthy screen time habits and digital boundaries — both during the school year and beyond.
